Our editors dedicate themselves to nominating our writers for all eligible awards, and we&#8217;re delighted to highlight some of those honors here.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/fan-break.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Community of Literary Magazines and Presses selected <em>Porter House Review<\/em> as <a href=\"https:\/\/lithub.com\/make-some-noise-here-are-the-winners-of-clmps-firecracker-awards\/\"><strong>the winner of Best Debut Magazine<\/strong><\/a> during their annual Firecracker Awards. The judges were Laura Cogan, editor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zyzzyva.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Zyzzyva;<\/em><\/a>\u00a0Ruben Quesada, Poetry Editor of <a href=\"https:\/\/agnionline.bu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>AGNI<\/em><\/a>; and Alexandra Watson, the Executive Editor of <a href=\"https:\/\/apogeejournal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Apogee Journal<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.3polakicau.click\/\">Polakicau<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>From the Judges:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Porter House\u00a0Review\u200b<\/em> publishes well-crafted prose and verse that is attentive to form and captivating. The journal demonstrates inclusivity, publishing works by writers from a wide range of backgrounds and exploring expansive themes.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Constance Renfrow<\/strong>&#8216;s short story, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/articles\/the-urg-by-constance-renfrow\/\">The Urg<\/a>,&#8221; was awarded <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sundresspublications.com\/bestof\/2019\/index.html\">Best of the Net 2019<\/a><\/strong> after winning <em>Porter House Review<\/em>&#8216;s Editor&#8217;s Prize in Fiction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Francine Witte<\/strong>&#8216;s flash fiction piece, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/articles\/middle-of-night-and-milk\/\">Middle of Night<\/a>,&#8221; was selected for inclusion in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bestmicrofiction.com\/index_2020.html\">Best Microfiction 2020<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Lena Khalaf Tuffaha<\/strong>&#8216;s essay, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/articles\/muhammads-in-gaza\/\">Muhammad&#8217;s in Gaza<\/a>,&#8221; was awarded <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bestofthenetanthology.com\/\">Best of the Net 2020<\/a><\/strong> after being selected as a finalist for <em>Porter House Review<\/em>&#8216;s Editor&#8217;s Prize in Creative Nonfiction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-2140 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Best-Debut-Stories-2021-FINAL-2-683x1024-1.jpg\" alt=\"Cover of Best Debut Short Stories 2021\" width=\"121\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Best-Debut-Stories-2021-FINAL-2-683x1024-1.jpg 683w, https:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Best-Debut-Stories-2021-FINAL-2-683x1024-1-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 121px) 100vw, 121px\" \/>Mackenzie McGee&#8217;<\/strong>s short story, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/articles\/decorum-and-dare-crafting-the-interviews-energy\/\">Re: Frankie<\/a>,&#8221; won <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lithub.com\/announcing-the-winners-of-the-pen-bellwether-prize-and-the-pen-robert-j-dau-short-story-prize\/\">The 2020 PEN\/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers<\/a><\/strong>, a prize that annually honors 12 emerging writers with $2,000 each for a debut short story published in a literary magazine, journal, or cultural website. &#8220;Re: Frankie&#8221; will appear in <em>Best Debut Short Stories 2021<\/em> (Catapult).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Matthew Goldberg<\/strong>&#8216;s flash fiction piece, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/articles\/calf\/\">Calf<\/a>,&#8221; was selected for inclusion in <a href=\"https:\/\/altcurrentpress.com\/best-small-fictions\/\"><strong>Best Small Fictions 2023<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Sharon Lin<\/strong>&#8216;s poem, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/porterhousereview.org\/articles\/mythmaking\/\">Mythmaking<\/a>,&#8221; was named a finalist for <a href=\"https:\/\/bestofthenetanthology.com\/2025-2\/2025-finalists\/\"><strong>Best of the Net 2025<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Porter House Review is committed to celebrating our contributors far beyond the day of publication.
