Podcast Editor
Rachel Spies is from Austin, Texas where she still currently lives with her husband, three small children, and two basset hounds. Her nonfiction work has appeared in Catapult, The Ocean State Review and Memoir Magazine. She is an MFA candidate in nonfiction at Texas State University.
How she thinks about podcasts: She especially values the voices of women and the voices of those underrepresented in the mainstream literary canon, and hopes the PHR podcast can be a mechanism to share those voices with a larger audience. She thinks the role of the podcast is to listen more than talk.
Influences: Rachel’s literary influences are Joan Didion, Annie Dillard, Jo Ann Beard, Sandra Cisneros, and Camille Dungy, among others. Always on her podcast playlist is a rotation of Freakanomics, Radiolab, anything with Malcolm Gladwell (especially Revisionist History), any season of Crimetown, and This is Just to Say with Carrie Fountain.
