The Inner Voice by Laura Foley
You’re not using your good fortune,
think of your sisters’ mental diseases—
of Syria, Jerusalem, seething,
You should be doing more, the inner voice nags.
But on days you visit your special needs daughter,
the communal farm where she thrives,
as you travel the long winding road home,
you notice your heart’s become a wide open plain,
and the voice has nothing to say.
