Fall 2025 Submission Updates

Big changes coming to Porter House Review!
We’re excited to share some updates to our submission guidelines and payment rates!
- We’re going pro! We’ll be paying $0.05 per word for fiction and nonfiction with a minimum payment of $50. Our payment for poetry will remain at the pro rate of $50 per poem.
- Our nonfiction is getting a boost. Previously, we capped our nonfiction word count at 4,000 words. Going forward, it will share the same cap as fiction: 5000 words. All general and contest submission calls will follow the same word counts.
- We’ll have four submission windows instead of two each year. We’ll be open for submissions for a total of twenty weeks this school year, an increase from thirteen weeks previously. And we’ll have twenty days of free submissions, compared to fourteen in the past. Moreover, our free periods will occur at the beginning of submission windows rather than the end.
- Our annual Editor’s Prize call will move to January. Previously, we kicked off our Editor’s Prize in November. Moving forward, the Prize will open in January, with winners announced in June.
- We’ll accept multiple submissions from a single creator in each category. Previously, we allowed only a single work in each category for each call. We’ll now accept as many works as submitters wish to send during paid submission windows. During free submission periods, we’ll retain a limit of one free submission per person per category.
Thank you for your support of Porter House Review—we look forward to a great year!
